Barn owl in a graveyard
'Barn owl in a graveyard', watercolours, 8 by 12 ins approx., Fabriano paper.
My post for the WDE at wetcanvas this weekend. The stimulus was a photo of a barn owl on a handler's arm.
This was my final painting after 3 hours. I did 2 practice attempts ... around an hour each.
I was inspired both by the barn owl photo and by looking at Casper David Friedrich's paintings of owls in graveyards.
It looks fairly monochromatic, but I used 4 colours...Q. gold, Green gold, warm sepia and violet.

i've seen so many painted owls of late and have painted a few myself...but this is my very favorite. not JUST because it doesn't look like every one elses...because it is simply BEAUTIFUL, and i love the colors you chose!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful colours and great composition
ReplyDeleteHi Wanda, Allan and Lesley. I enjoyed painting the washes for this owl painting. Q. gold is a beautiful colour I think. Do any of you use it?
